In-Person Skills Programs For Students With Disabilities Face Challenges During Pandemic.
Disability Scoop (6/4, Neese) reports on LifeTown Columbus, an educational program that “teaches students with disabilities the skills needed to navigate everyday life with fun, interactive activities.” Students who visit the facility in New Albany, Ohio, “withdraw money from its bank for use at storefronts – a movie theater, salon, art studio, doctor’s office and more.” However, the pandemic has shuttered the facility for the time being, and many disability advocates “have voiced concerns about how learning from a distance...might disproportionately affect students with disabilities.” Programs like LifeTown are attempting to find ways to adapt their programs so students can still receive these lessons in alternative formats.
