NCIS Season 18: Spoilers, Premiere Date, Photos, Trailers, and Casting

NCIS is definitely back on for Season 18, along with NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans, although no date has been shored up yet — in part do to lingering complications from COVID-19. Still, we can rest assured Mark Harmon, Wilmer Valderrama and the rest of the show's stars are eager to get back to work as soon as possible, with more episodes like its last stunning installment with Christopher Lloyd. In hopes of learning more about what we'll see when it's back, TV Guide spoke with executive producer Frank Cardea and Gina Monreal, a co-executive producer, who shared some insight on what we can expect in Season 18.

NCIS Returning for Season 18 at CBS?

Though it wasn't the way producers and the network had planned, NCIS concluded Season 17 in mid-April just shy of 400 episodes. Halted production because of COVID-19 caused NCIS to stop earlier than expected, of course, although the episode that ended up becoming the finale was a strong and stirring way to finish. So now, the question is: When is NCIS coming back for Season 18?

NCIS: Everything We Know About Season 18 So Far

NCIS' bold season-ending episode was not — repeat NOT — a season finale in the eyes of producers, thank you very much, even if, for all intents and purposes, that stunning turn from Christopher Lloyd will be the last fans will see of the show for a while. Of course, coronavirus has dramatically upended all timetables for NCIS and pretty much ever other show on TV right now, and there's no definitive return date set for the show to come back.

NCIS Renewed for Season 18 at CBS?

Although it's due to forces beyond its control, NCIS will conclude its 17th season on CBS next week, just shy of 400 episodes. That whopping number is a testament to the enduring allure of the police action procedural: running since 2003, NCIS has, as fans know, bred two spinoffs NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans, each of them success stories in their own rite. However, the show has not officially been picked up for a Season 18 at CBS — yet.
