With just five days to go until the Government's Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme expires, 8,000 employers have now registered for the new Employee Wage Subsidy Scheme which will replace it from next Tuesday, September 1.
However, the criteria for the EWSS will be significantly different - and employers are being advised to ensure they have Tax Clearance Certificates in order to qualify for payroll subsidies for staff.
As of last Thursday, around 69,500 employers had registered for TWSS, and around 370,000 employees were having their wages subsidised by the state through the TWSS during their last pay period - down from a peak of 410,000.
