Former Arsenal star Johan Djourou is taking FC Sion to court after they sacked him and eight other team-mates for not taking a pay cut amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Djourou, along with fellow ex-Gunner Alex Song, Pajtim Kasami, Christian Zock, Ermir Lenjani, Xavier Kouassi, Birama Ndoye, Mikael Facchinetti and Seydou Doumbia, was fired for either failing to respond to a WhatsApp message from the club's president Christian Constantin or for openly rejecting the pay cut.
Sion wanted the players to accept a "technical unemployment" deal which would see their wages slashed to around €12,000 (£10,750) to help the club deal with the financial impact of football being suspended.
