The Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe, has said he recognises that for many people who have lost their jobs or can't work as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, the amount of social welfare available will be a real challenge.
But he said the Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment was brought in really quickly as an interim payment to help people who were losing their jobs.
Speaking on Friday's 'Late Late Show', Mr Donohoe also said the Government is continuing to look at how it can help those who have lost jobs and support those that are still just about in one.
The Minister said he understands the anxiety people might have about the Covid-19 pandemic, but said the country will get through this and we will rebuild our economy.
