Joker star Joaquin Phoenix almost starred in a Batman film much earlier and not as a villain

Joaquin Phoenix may have swept the board at awards season this year for his portrayal of the Joker, but he almost starred in a Batman film much earlier.

Joaquin’s critically acclaimed Joker was released in 2019, but he was actually associated with Batman years earlier, when filmmaker Darren Aronofsky was working on a movie about the DC superhero.

And while Joaquin and the Joker now go hand in hand, Aronofsky had actually pictured Joaquin as more of a Batman kind of guy.

Speaking to Empire magazine, Aronofsky recalled the time he was working on a Batman film, that later got cancelled before Christopher Nolan was brought in to make Batman Begins.
