PHILADELPHIA - Local school districts are turning to dogs as their newest strategy to help students and staff overcome mental and emotional struggles and stress in school.Puppies and full-grown dogs were in training with their owners at the Fallsington Elementary School in Levittown on Monday morning after the Pennsbury School District says their most recent goal is to have a therapy dog in every school in the district after recent statistics show that interacting with dogs can benefit people's mental health."We do mental health and suicide prevention programs and dogs are involved in every one of our programs," said Tricia Baker, Director of Attitudes in Reverse therapy dog training. Baker and her daughter, Katelyn, work with dogs to get them trained to provide a sense of calm and comfort in a counseling session or an emergency. The mother-daughter duo spends dozens of hours each week traveling to various schools to teach a 40-week program with dog owners and their pets."It's nice to take the knowledge we had teaching about dogs and turning it in to something even more," said Katelyn Baker. Nine administrators and teachers of the Pennsbury School District have volunteered for the 11-month intensive training course to reach their goal of having a dog assigned to each school in the district.

BRISTOL, Pa. - A Bucks County woman is facing charges after authorities say she shot and killed her husband at a local park Tuesday morning. Sammar Khan, 40, is accused of shooting 38-year-old Faisal Iqbal during what witnesses described to police as an argument at Bristol Borough Wharf. It's alleged that Khan, a Levittown resident, and Iqbal were talking near the coastline when Khan started speaking loudly in another language. Witnesses reported hearing a ‘pop sound’ followed by Khan and Iqbal wrestling. More gunshots were heard by witnesses before Khan and Iqbal started walking towards the parking lot, police said.MORE LOCAL HEADLINESIqbal asked a witness to call 911, at which time police say Khan shot Iqbal twice which caused him to collapse in the grassy area between the water and parking lot. It's alleged that as Iqbal laid on the ground defenseless, Khan walked over and shot him twice in the torso and once in the head. Responding officers from the Bristol Borough Police Department found Khan with blood on her clothing.

LEVITTOWN, Pa. - A somber celebration was held Thursday to recognize the completion of a sidewalk project that was spearheaded by a Pennsylvania mother whose son was fatally struck by a car over a decade ago. John Rearick was killed in July 2012 while walking along a stretch of New Falls Road in Levittown. No sidewalk and overgrown trees forced John to walk in the median where he was hit from behind. Since John's death, his heartbroken mother Sharon Rearick has spent tireless hours culling support for a sidewalk project, so people can safely walk next to traffic on New Falls Road. "To make it okay in my brain and my heart, I had to do something," Sharon said.

LEVITTOWN, Pa. - A Pennsylvania state trooper will be laid to rest Thursday after he, another trooper were killed by a suspected drunk driver on as they assisted a man on I-95 in Philadelphia last week. A funeral will be held for Trooper Martin F. Mack III beginning at 11 a.m.

BENSALEM, Pa. - A man Bensalem police say arranged to meet with an 11-year-old girl for oral sex has been arrested Wednesday.According to authorities, 21-year-old Jonathan Savino, of Levittown, was picked up on the 4200 block of Neshaminy Boulevard Wednesday morning, around 10.Savino reportedly arranged to meet with an 11-year-old girl through the online app Addchat.

BENSALEM, Pa. - A New Jersey woman will spend 12 to 24 years in state prison for driving drunk into oncoming traffic and killing three people on Interstate 95 in Bensalem in April.On April 1, 2020, Priscilla Cortez, 34, was driving south on northbound I-95, near mile marker 33, at about 1:40 a.m. when she crashed into a car.The crash killed Ryan Connell, 28, Leanne Popson, 35, both of the Levittown area, and Lucas Gelatko, 36, of Yardley.All three victims had children.Priscilla Cortez, 34, of Camden, pleaded guilty to three counts each of homicide by vehicle while drunken driving and homicide by vehicle, as well as three counts of drunken driving and several summary traffic offenses.During the investigation, state police reviewed home
