LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Peak morning hours saw a child and man become more victims of gun violence in Lower Merion Township this weekend.The double shooting happened near City Avenue and 47th Street in Bala Cynwyd around 8 a.m.A man and child were both shot, according to authorities.

Philadelphia weekend violence mounts as crimes against women trend upwards

PHILADELPHIA - It was another violent weekend in Philadelphia with a trend of violence against women continuing to emerge. What began as a troubling trend in the spring has become a staggering statistic as the year continues on. FOX 29's Steve Keeley reports that there has been 150% increase in violent crime against women from 24 to 60. In one of the most recent crimes against women, a woman was fatally shot in the head in Kensington on Sunday. Police say the 28-year-old woman was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. She was taken to Temple University Hospital where she later died. Earlier Sunday, in Bala Cynwyd, a woman was also violently slain in a murder-suicide outside of a Target.

Kent William Powe (Lower Merion Police Department) LOWER MERION, Pa. - Lower Merion police confirmed Thursday night that a man has been arrested in connection with an attempted abduction near an apartment building in Bala Cynwyd.According to police, the suspect pressed an object into a woman’s back at the Royal Athena Apartment Complex on Nov. 4 and said, “You know what this is?”The woman was able to get away.Police say Kent William Powe, 58, was taken into custody at a home Thursday morning in Collingdale without incident.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. - A man accused in an attempted kidnapping and assault in Cherry Hill is possibly linked to an incident in Bala Cynwyd.Lower Merion police say the man tried to kidnap a woman at the Royal Athena Apartments on Righters Ferry Road in early November.According to Cherry Hill police, it's believed to be the same man involved in a robbery and attempted kidnapping at a condo complex there last month.Police say in both incidents, the man approached a female victim by starting a friendly conversation before turning violent.The first incident happened Nov. 14 on Pacer Court around 7:30 p.m.

Police investigating double shooting outside Lower Merion radio station

LOWER MERION - Authorities say two young adults were injured when gunfire erupted outside a Lower Merion Township radio station early Saturday morning.According to police, the shooting happened near the front entrance of the 101.1 More FM in Bala Cynwyd just before 2:30 a.m.Police say 18-year-old Masir Williams and 19-year-old Thalia Serrano were sitting outside the station when they were hit by gunfire from a dark-colored sedan.The man and woman were reportedly hit multiple times. Police say they are in stable condition at Lankenau Hospital. No arrests have been reported.
