COVID-19: TN govt gives consent to BCG trial at ICMR's Chennai institute

CHENNAI : Sanction has been accorded to a trial by the Indian Council of Medical Research's Tuberculosis institute here to study the efficacy of BCG vaccine in the elderly in the fight against COVID-19, the government said on Wednesday. Chief Minister K Palaniswami, in an order, has given the State's approval after ICMR sought Tamil Nadu government's permission to study the efficacy of the Bacillus Calmette- Gurin (BCG) vaccine in senior citizens at its National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT) at Chetpet here.

₹15,000 per day for Covid-19 treatment in ICUs

₹7,500 per day, the Tamil Nadu govt said Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday capped the charges for COVID-19 treatment in private hospitals at ₹15,000 per day in Intensive Care Units across the state and announced that no fee over and above the fixed slab can be claimed from patients. In private sector hospitals, the per day charges for treatment in ICUs shall not exceed ₹15,000 and in general wards, for asymptomatic people and those with mild symptoms, the maximum is ₹7,500, Health Minister C Vijayabaskar said in an official release."Chief Minister K Palaniswami has ordered the ceiling for COVID-19 treatment charges," the Minister said.

Tamil Nadu Covid-19 count rises to 9,674 with 447 fresh cases

With 447 fresh cases in the state in last 24 hours, the total number of novel coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu increased to 9,674, said Health Minister C Vijayabaskar. Along with that, two more deaths were reported in the state since yesterday, taking the toll to 66, he added.
