Over 1,750 people have been tested at a pop-up test centre in Dungarvan following a covid-19 outbreak in the area. 120 cases of the virus have been confirmed in west Waterford over the last ten days and the outbreak prompted the HSE to establish the temporary walk-in testing facility last Wednesday.
It's understood that there are concerns that 50 of those cases could be the Delta variant and further scientific examination is taking place.
However, it could be days or even weeks before there is confirmation about whether or not they are instances of that variant.
Numbers turning up for testing on the grounds of Dungarvan Community Hospital averaged at 500 from Thursday to Saturday and fell to 250 on Sunday.
