The Department of Health has been notified of 234 new cases of Covid-19. There are two new coronavirus-related deaths. Earlier a specialist in infectious disease, Professor Sam McConkey, warned that Ireland is at the beginning of a second wave of Covid-19.
Speaking at a meeting of the Oireachtas Special Committee on Covid-19 response, Prof McConkey said that physical distancing is needed to "crush the curve into the ground".
In Northern Ireland, 220 new cases of the virus have been confirmed in the last 24-hours, according to the Department of Health.
There have been no further deaths, with the toll remaining at 577. Around 600 pubs in Northern Ireland that do not serve food can open from today for the first time since Covid-19 restrictions
