A big change is in store for the BBC television licence fee which is expected to come into effect in August – and it is bad news for the over 75s.
Beeb Director General, Lord Tony Hall, has decreed that August 1 this year will mark the end of free TV licences for the over 75s although some OAPs will be entitled to continue using the service for free.
The 69-year-old businessman discussed plans to end free TV licences for the elderly during an appearance on the BBC’s flagship political show, The Andrew Marr show, on Sunday.
Plans for free licences for the over 75s to be scrapped had been set to take effect in June but the date the changes would take effect was moved to August due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
