For the first time since the outbreak of Covid-19 in Ireland, health officials have provided a detailed breakdown of the people who have lost their lives.
Last night, 17 additional deaths were reported; the biggest daily increase in this figure. A total of 71 people who had Covid-19 have now died in Ireland.
83% of those who died were aged over 70, and two thirds of them were in the east of the country. 52 of the people who died were male and 19 were female.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said that 54 of the 71 people had underlying health conditions. A further 325 cases of the virus announced last night, brought the total to 3,235.
