Chancellor Rishi Sunak has said the government will help businesses pay wages up to £2,500, which it hopes will prevent coronavirus redundancies.
During a conference at Number 10, the Chancellor said “for the first time in our history” the Government will step in and help pay people’s wages through a coronavirus job retention scheme.
The scheme will cover wages up to Mach 1st, and will be available for three months, but the Chancellor said the government will extend accordingly.
The Chancellor told Brits they will "not face this alone" and strengthened the safety net for people who have lost their jobs.
