A hosepipe ban looks set to be rolled out this summer, despite one of the wettest winters on record. Forecasters are predicting a dry three months ahead.
And water use has soared because people are stuck at home due to the lockdown, with utilities firms warning of droughts. Bookmakers Coral cut odds on a hosepipe ban from 2/1 to 4/5.
The firm’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “Ground is hard already and we make a hosepipe ban odds-on this summer.” A month of floods only eased in early March.
But most of the country has had almost no rain since March 17, figures show.So far this month, many areas have had less than 5mm rainfall.
