Simon Gregson is one of Coronation Street’s longest running actors. He portrays Steve McDonald - who is infamous for his love of weddings and short-term marriages.

However, in real life, he enjoys a loving marriage with his wife, Emma Gleave. Born on 2 October 1974 in Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester, Simon joined the cast of Coronation Street in 1989 while studying at The Kingsway School, Stockport.

He was chosen to play Steve McDonald due to his similar appearance to fellow student Nicholas Cochrane, who was cast as Andy McDonald.

Initially credited under his real name, Simon Gregory, he later adopted his stage name when he joined performing arts and entertainment trade union Equity, as there was already a member with his real name.
