A coronavirus prison riot has left 23 inmates dead and 83 injured – as desperate lags plea to be freed before COVID-19 tears through the population.
Seven guards were injured, with two left in critical condition after the uprising at Colombia’s Bogota prison. The riot started when prison bosses refused to agree to better sanitary conditions in the crumbling jail.
Colombia is expected to go into a nationwide lockdown from Tuesday night after 231 people tested positive. Two Colombians are believed to have died after contracting the deadly bug.
