The latest data on the Omicron Covid variant has been published by the Scottish Government. Nicola Sturgeon on Thursday urged all Scots to stay at home ‘as much as they possibly can’ as scientists continue to learn more about the variant.

The First Minister has said that Omicron has a ‘very high attack rate’ and early studies have shown that the effectiveness of two vaccine doses wanes when it comes up against the new strain.Experts are also trying to discover if the variant causes more or less severe infection from Covid.

New measures were announced earlier in the week for retail and hospitality venues to protect staff and customers amid the new wave of cases.
