New Year's Day babies arrive as Scots parents welcome first child born in 2024

Scotland has welcomed the first babies born in 2024 - with one family receiving their little bundle of joy just minutes into the New Year.

Jamie and Andrew Buchanan became the first new parents of the year in Fife, with little Henry George Buchanan arriving just two minutes after the bells.Mum Kirsty Crowe welcomed her baby boy Lewis at 12.06am at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital, making him the first Glasgow baby of 2024.Little Lewis was born weighing 8oz 1lb and both mum and baby are doing well.The second newborn in Glasgow was brought into the world at 1.31am at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.Adriel Elechi was born weighing 8oz 2lb, much to the joy of mum Grace and dad Chibueze Elechi.The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital has had more arrivals following little Adriel's birth but details are yet to be revealed. And desperate to make an appearance in the world, little Caleb Jack Mark Thomson was born three days early at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.Mum Morgan Templeton welcomed her first baby with dad Andrew Thomson at 5.45am this morning, making Caleb the first New Year baby at the Royal Alexandra this year.Caleb was born via C-section and weighed 7lb 7oz.Proud dad Andrew told the Record: "We have been in hospital since the 27th but Caleb wasn't actually due until the 4th of January."Morgan's waters broke on Hogmanay and she ended up having a section. "Caleb is our first and was born at 5.45am.
