Members of the public are being told to only attend a Greater Manchester A&E if their condition is 'serious or life-threatening' amid another warning about mounting pressures on its services.

The accident and emergency department at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, operated by Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is 'very busy'.

The trust shared a warning this morning (January 29) that 'if you come to the emergency department with something minor you will wait longer to be seen'. "Our emergency department is very busy," read a message put out by the trust on X, formerly known as Twitter. "You’ll be seen in order of clinical priority and may experience a wait to be seen."
