Arsenal hero Paul Merson has sent a warning to FA over plans to potentially scrap the League Cup, calling it “another nail in the coffin for smaller clubs”.
The domestic cup was one of the few to not feel the effect of coronavirus, with the trophy won by Manchester City in March. But the Carabao Cup has come under criticism from fans, with Premier League teams winning the title continuously for several years.
The competition, which features the 92 English Football League, has been running since 1961, with Liverpool holding the most titles (8) followed by Pep Guardiola’s side (7).
