Rory McIlroy calls for Ryder Cup to be postponed as it cannot be played without fans

Rory McIlroy has called for the Ryder Cup to be postponed until 2021 due to the coronavirus crisis. The biennial clash between Europe and Team USA is scheduled to take place at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin between September 25 and 27.

Organisers have still to make a decision on what to do about golf's biggest event, with one suggestion being to stage it behind closed doors.

But McIlroy believes this would be a mistake - and is one of a number of players who has called for the event not to be played this year if spectators are not able to attend.
