Tom Jones stood before a painting of his childhood home in Wales and, with heartfelt emotion, told a world in lockdown of his own first experience of isolation – when he spent two years confined to that terraced house, in quarantine with tuberculosis.
Taking part in last week’s One World: Together At Home gig, Sir Tom was clearly moved, events of today bringing back painful memories of being a lonely 12-year-old boy cut off from the world.
He has spoken in the past of the torment of seeing his friends walk by his window – especially a certain Melinda “Linda” Trenchard, a girl he had a crush on who would later become his wife.
