PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are searching for a Philadelphia man who they say entered a senior citizen's home through an unlocked door and assaulted her before forcing her to undress. Police named 22-year-old Zyree Downing as a suspect in the heinous assault of a 71-year-old woman inside a home on the 7400 block of Devon Street in mid-September. Authorities believe Downing entered the home through an unlocked door and demanded money from the elderly victim. When she refused, investigators say Downing punched the victim in the head and back and started chocking her.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say two men are fighting for their lives after they showed up at a Philadelphia hospital Monday afternoon suffering from lethal gunshot wounds. According to investigators, a 35-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest and a 28-year-old man shot in the head arrived at Penn Presbyterian Hospital in a private vehicle around 5:30 p.m.Police believe the men were shot on the 1800 block of South Ringgold Street shortly before they arrived at the hospital. Three men and a woman were taken into custody immediately following the shooting, according to police. Authorities have not said what sparked the double shooting, but the investigation reportedly spans several crime scenes. 

PHILADELPHIA - Video taken by a witness captures the moments a fight escalated to a deadly shooting on South Street in Philadelphia over the weekend. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 400 block of South Street just after midnight Saturday for reports of a shooting. Police found a 35-year-old man shot to wounds to the head and chest, and rushed him to Jefferson University hospital where he died. Quadare Lane, 28, was later arrested by police near the intersection of 5th and Lombard streets with what police believe was the murder weapon in his possession. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe deadly shooting comes months after a mass shooting on South Street in June where three people died and nearly a dozen were injured. Philadelphia Councilmember Mark Squilla said the city is working to put more protections in place to help foster more businesses along one of Philadelphia's most popular thoroughfares. "We are working very diligently with the police department, they do have personal out there.  Sometimes we hear from some of the businesses that’s a deterrent for people to go there.

PHILADELPHIA - A man accused of two sexual assaults on SEPTA platforms that happened minutes apart was charged on Monday, days after he reportedly turned himself in. The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office charged 25-year-old Raymond Nunez with multiple offenses, including stalking, harassment, and indecent assault. The charges stem from two sexual assault incidents that happened on SEPTA platforms along the Broad Street Line in South Philadelphia on Monday.Officials say the first happened about 10:30 Monday night at the City Hall platform. PITTSBURGH - A man convicted of having set a house fire that killed a young child and two women in Pittsburgh 4 1/2 years ago now faces a life prison sentence without possibility of parole.Jurors in Allegheny County deliberated for about six hours over two days before convicting Martell Smith of three counts of second-degree murder in the December 2017 fire, the Tribune-Review reported. He was also convicted of multiple counts of arson but acquitted of one attempted homicide count.Prosecutors had been seeking a first-degree murder conviction and planned to pursue capital punishment if jurors convicted Smith on that charge, citing the multiple felonies, the child victim and the defendant's criminal record.

PARIS (AP) - A billowing column of dark smoke towered over Paris on Sunday from a warehouse blaze at a massive produce market that supplies the French capital and surrounding region with much of its fresh food and bills itself as the largest of its kind in the world.Firefighters urged people to stay away from the area in Paris' southern suburbs, as 100 officers and 30 fire engines battled the blaze at the Rungis International Market.Capt. ARUNDEL, Del. - A 46–year-old man died after he was pinned beneath a pickup truck outside of Wilmington.New Castle County officials said police were dispatched to Beehler Court, in Arundel, just outside of Wilmington, Sunday morning, just after 9 a.m., on a report of a person struck by a vehicle.Police arrived to find the man pinned underneath a pickup truck.Medics and officers tried to resuscitate the victim, but they were unsuccessful and the man died at the scene.A preliminary investigation revealed the man had gotten out of the truck, but the truck was still in gear and he was hit by the truck and pinned underneath.The incident is actively being investigated by New Castle County Police.
