Aisling Bea opens up about ‘crippling loneliness’ in an effort to destigmatise the feeling

Aisling Bea is one of the biggest names in Irish comedy. She has written her own series, appeared in grippingly amusing Netflix movie and enjoyed having not one but two Paul Rudds as husbands in a recent series.

Despite all of the highs, the comedian is very open in discussing the lows she also works through. The Kildare native has opened up about how she has been hit with ‘crippling loneliness’ throughout her life and tried to get rid of the shame we attach to feeling that way.

Speaking on Jameela Jamil’s podcast, IWeigh, she admitted: ‘Loneliness is like in the fifties when someone had cancer people were like “We can’t talk about it because it’s a death sentence and we might catch it.”.’ ‘I think loneliness is so pervasive in our society
