The UK has the highest coronavirus death rate in the world, new data shows. Over the last week the country suffered an average of 935 Covid deaths a day, according to Oxford University research platform Our World In Data.
That means for each of the last seven days, 16 out of every million people in Britain died of the coronaviru s. The rate puts the country above the Czech Republic (16.3 per one million), Portugal (14.8) and Slovakia (14.5).
The US, where more than 400,000 people have now been killed by Covid-19 - 250,000 more than India, which is second place in the rankings - has a death rate of 10 per one million people.
