EABAMETOONG FIRST NATION, Ont. – A northern Ontario health authority serving remote Indigenous communities says COVID-19 has surfaced in its territory for the first time.
The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority says the patient lives on the Eabametoong First Nation, about 300 kilometres north of Thunder Bay. The health authority says the case marks the first time COVID-19 has been diagnosed in a remote northern Ontario community. It says the development, while not entirely unexpected, is troubling given the limited resources available to remote Indigenous communities.
