An 80-year-old grandmother who went into hospital for a routine operation died after catching the coronavirus. Former cleaner Marita Edwards, 80, is reportedly the first Briton to die by contracting the disease on a hospital ward.
She was admitted to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, south Wales, for gallbladder surgery on February 28 but died last Thursday after testing positive for COVID-19.
