Corrie star Sally Carman-Duttine reveals what it's like working with co-star husband - 'It's horrendous'

For the first time since Sally Carman-Duttine joined Coronation Street, her character Abi Webster finally has it all – a loving husband, a steady job and a place she can call home.

However, that’s all set to change. Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) is intent on sabotaging Abi’s life, but Sally knows who would come out on top if the ladies were to go head-to-head. “Abi’s an alley cat, she’d fight to the death would Abi – I don’t think anyone would stand a chance,” laughs Sally, 42. “Cassie can relate to Abi because of similar problems, and she wants what Abi’s got – but I’m not sure whether she wants Kevin or Abi’s life.” After already framing Abi for a scratch on a Porsche at the garage, Cassie decides to up the ante.This week, she secretly follows Abi and takes pictures of her talking with her old drug dealer Dean.

But Cassie is unaware that Abi hasn’t gone to get drugs for herself but to get them for Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) who’s struggling with Motor Neurone Disease and wants to end his life. “At first, Abi has a lot to think about, whether she wants to help Paul or not,” says Sally. “But in the end, she puts her feelings aside and thinks about who is most in need, so she does right by this young man in a really difficult, horrific position.” In real life, Cassie has loved working with Brookside star Claire Sweeney – even though she was apprehensive about it at first. “I can’t tell you how much I love working in that garage with Mike [Le Vell, who plays Kevin Webster] and Alan [Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs],” says Sally.
