The Scottish Covid Bereaved expect Boris Johnson to give "a grotesque distortion of the truth" when he appears at the UK Covid Inquiry this week. The former Tory Prime Minister will be at the inquiry in London today and tomorrow. He is expected to admit his government made mistakes in its response to the virus but argue that its decisions saved lives. He will also insist he followed the advice of scientists and did not lock down the country more quickly because herd immunity was initially favoured.Lawyer Aamer Anwar, who represents the Scottish Covid Bereaved, said: “For many of the Covid Bereaved the evidence heard from politicians at this Inquiry, has exposed a culture of impunity, incompetence, arrogance and blaming everyone else but themselves. "Boris Johnson will issue an apology, but he is expected to heavily caveat it by claiming he saved thousands of lives, for many of the bereaved that is a grotesque distortion of the truth. "Some 232,112 people have died from Covid, they cannot speak for themselves, but their families deserve the truth."In recent days, the UK inquiry has come under sustained and orchestrated attacks from sections of the media, this can only be, because this inquiry has been robustly effective and acted without fear or favour.”To sign up to the Daily Record Politics newsletter, click here.
