The Department of Health has been notified of 20,909 new coronavirus cases and 83 Covid-related deaths in the past week. It brings the number of people who died with the virus in Ireland to 6,035.
There are 1,055 people in hospital with the virus, down seven on yesterday. Of these, there are 92 patients in intensive care, which is unchanged from yesterday.
The National Public Health Emergency Team has said its modelling of the virus trend would suggest the peak is around now. However it said a better picture would be available at its key meeting next week when a more detailed assessment will be conducted.
Professor Philip Nolan, Chairperson of the NPHET Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group, said it will not be possible to say Ireland has hit the peak until the country is over it.
