Food parcels sent by the government to help the most vulnerable get through the coronavirus crisis have been met with dismay.
The packages are for people with serious health conditions - such as cystic fibrosis, severe asthma or leukaemia - who are most at risk from the virus and cannot leave their homes.
But while those being ‘shielded’ in other parts of the country, received pasta, fruit and ready meals boxes that arrived in Rochdale contained only tea bags, cordial, solitary apples, chocolate bars and dry noodles.
To compound matters, only 44 were delivered - despite there being 129 people in the borough who had requested an emergency parcel.
