London’s Nightingale Hospital has been placed on standby, which sounds like a sensible decision. It’s only had a small number of patients, and now the number of cases is going down it makes sense to close the doors and get all those staff back to their normal jobs.
If there is a second peak then the hospital could reopen again to meet demand. I think some people are hoping the virus will disappear, but until we get a vaccine that is unlikely to happen, so now it’s about avoiding a steep increase in the number of cases so the NHS doesn’t become overwhelmed again.
