The Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) has said that five Covid outbreaks were registered last week in relation to schools, and one in connection with a childcare facility.

In a report published online, it has not specified whether the outbreaks occurred in primary or post primary facilities. The five school outbreaks involved a total of 32 linked cases of the virus.

The HPSC said testing was carried out last week in connection with 76 post primary schools with 121 people tested, and 11 special schools with 69 tested.

There was a detection rate of 5.8% and 2.9% respectively. The Health Service Executive discontinued the routine testing of close contacts in mainstream primary schools a number of weeks ago.
