It has been confirmed that five residents in a north Mayo nursing home have died as a result of Covid-19. They were among seven people who have died at the Tí Aire home outside Belmullet, since the beginning of the month.
Another resident is being treated in hospital, after testing positive for the coronavirus. A number of other residents, who have also tested positive for Covid-19, are being cared for in the nursing home.
Tí Aire manager John Tighe said everyone at the facility was heartbroken by the deaths. He said extensive infection control measures had been put in place, in advance of any cases being confirmed.
