Ten countries have been added to Scotland’s red list for international travel amid concerns over the Omicron Covid variant.
Scientists and health officials have raised concerns about the new strain of the virus, which was first discovered in South Africa.There are fears that Omicron is more transmissible and experts are investigating the potential impacts that the variant has on vaccine effectiveness.
The variant been found in a number of countries in southern Africa and in Europe - including the UK. It was announced that two cases of Omicron had been found in England last night.
The UK Government has now introduced surge testing in two English cities in a bid to prevent the variant from spreading further.
