A maintenance firm called 'Handymen' is set to have its call for a Covid lifeline grant refused by a local council because of apparent sexism.
The property maintenance company's boss said the recommendation to turn down the request for a £1,000 business grant on the basis of 'gender discrimination' could only be due to its name.
The business has managed more than 2000 properties since it was launched in 1987 and during the crippling lockdown restrictions its owner applied to Penarth Town Council for the grant.
Manager James Squire-Wood was shocked to find that the South Wales company's call for aid was set to be turned down due to 'gender discrimination' - and he said it was because of the company name.
