John Bishop has spoken out after he was criticised for going to visit his elderly parents on his way to a funeral during the coronavirus lockdown.

John, who is married to Melanie Bishop, said that he was going to his father-in-law's funeral and was dropping off some provisions for his parents en route.

In the snap, which was posted on Wednesday evening, John can be seen taking a smiley selfie with his parents Kathy and Ernie, standing in the background outside the front of their home.

The comedian insisted that he "followed all the guidelines" and did not break any rules "that would affect NHS or frontline workers".
