PHILADELPHIA - A man was shot and killed in front of his wife as he parked his car in Philadelphia’s Rhawnhurst neighborhood early Thursday morning, according to police.Investigators say the victim was ambushed in his own driveway around 1:30 a.m. on the 7300 block of Whitaker Avenue. At least 15 shots were fired into the vehicle, fatally wounding the 34-year-old driver.

Bicyclists ride through Philadelphia to raise awareness for biker safety on local roadways

PHILADELPHIA - Local bicycle enthusiast gathered Wednesday in Philadelphia for an eight-mile ride to honor cyclists killed in vehicle accidents and call for more safety measures for people to protect bikers. "We want to show people that they have to drive safely, and we also want to show that we are respectful as bicyclists," Philadelphia Ride of Silence organizer Ray Scheinfeld said. Approximately 800 bicyclists across the county were killed last year in accidents with vehicles, including 12 in the Philadelphia region. Sidney Ozer participates in the Philadelphia Ride of Silence every year in memory of his 17-year-old son Sam, who was killed in an accident on Henry Avenue almost three years ago."Coming home on Father's Day he was struck and killed by an automobile on Henry Avene, one of the high-injury streets that we have in our city," Ozer said. Police: Man shot in neck near ATM machine in Oxford Circle

PHILADELPHIA - A man is fighting for his life after police say he was shot near an ATM machine in Philadelphia's Oxford Circle neighborhood. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 6500 block of Roosevelt Boulevard around 9 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Chief Inspector Scott Small reports the victim, a man, was near an ATM machine when someone shot him in the neck. He was taken to a nearby hospital where police say he is in critical condition. Investigators have not said what lead to the shooting.

Pennsylvania State Police report spike in road rage-related shootings in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA - The Pennsylvania State Police provided updated totals on recent road-rage related shootings, and they're asking for the public's help in investigating and preventing interstate shootings. In the last three years, authorities say there has been an increase in the number of road rage-related shootings on the interstates surrounding Philadelphia. In 2020, Pennsylvania State Police say they investigated only four interstate shootings, but in 2022, that number spiked to 20. Officials say this year is on pace to match or surpass last year's totals with troopers reporting that they've already responded to ten interstate shootings. There have been a total of 40 reported road rage-related shootings since 2020 and of those 40, eight victims were struck by gunfire, according to State Police.

More than 70 Chihuahuas rescued from Kensington home by PSPCA up for adoption

PHILADELPHIA - Dozens and dozens of innocent dogs are hoping for a second chance at a safe, happy life after being saved from a home in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood.The Pennsylvania SPCA says they removed 73 Chihuahuas and one rottweiler from the 1900 block of North Orianna Street on May 11.Police were serving a separate order when they observed 40 dogs "living in unsanitary conditions," and contacted the PSPCA."Instead of 40 dogs, they found nearly double, with the total rescued landing at 74," the PSPCA said.MORE HEADLINES:Officials say the dogs were seized over concerns for their welfare, including unsanitary conditions, lack of veterinary care and significant number of dogs."In the city of Philadelphia, no more than 13 spayed/neutered dogs are permitted in one home or 2 unaltered dogs," according to the PSPCA.All 75 dogs are now under the care of the PSPCA, but are available for adoption as of Monday.
