Manchester United have priced Roma out of a permanent deal for Chris Smalling. The England international moved to the Italian capital on loan last summer and has quickly become a fan favourite.
A series of impressive performances had convinced club directors that they wanted to make the loan permanent. However, financial constraints, partly affected by the coronavirus crisis, look to have ended those hopes.
The 30-year-old has openly admitted he is loving life in Serie A after forming a defensive partnership with Gianluca Mancini.
But a return to Old Trafford looks destined after United placed a £25m price-tag on the former Fulham man. According to Calcio Mercato, that has locked Roma out of signing him on a permanent deal.
