‘Vax’ earns 2021 word of the year from Oxford English Dictionary
LONDON - In true COVID-19 pandemic fashion, Oxford English Dictionary has named "vax" as the 2021 word of the year. "When our lexicographers began digging into our English language corpus data it quickly became apparent that vax was a particularly striking term," Oxford Languages said on its website. According to Oxford Languages, vax— a derivative of vaccine— was a relatively low-key word at the beginning of the year. But by September, it was over 72 times more frequent in the English language than a year ago.

Slash, Myles Kennedy and two Conspirators came down with COVID-19 working on new album
Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, Slash – as well as Kennedy himself, and two of their bandmates – tested positive for COVID-19.The modern-day guitar great shared the news in an interview with Germany’s Radio Regenbogen, saying (as transcribed by Blabbermouth): “The funniest story about this record was the COVID story, because we took a tour bus to Nashville to keep ourselves safe – to get there and not travel commercially.“And then we went and recorded the whole record, and then I got a phone call from Myles in the studio when I was about to do overdubs, and he goes, ‘Man, I tested positive.’ And subsequently, two of the other guys tested positive, so they all had to go into quarantine.

‘Systemic ageism’ to blame for COVID-19 deaths in Quebec care homes, inquest hears
‘Beyond what’s humanly acceptable’: Testimony ends at inquest into death Herron long-term care home The former health minister said that even before the pandemic there was a tendency to shift health-care resources toward other priorities, leading to a lack of doctors and nurses to care for vulnerable seniors in care homes.Hébert also pointed to outdated facilities where patients were subjected to inadequate ventilation and forced to share bedrooms and bathrooms as factors that contributed to Quebec’s high mortality rate. The coroner’s inquest is examining the deaths of elderly and vulnerable people in residential settings during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to formulate recommendations to avoid future tragedies.

Ontario has enough hospital feedback for mandatory COVID vaccine decision, health minister says
Ford asks hospitals for input on potential COVID-19 vaccine mandate She says today that she has now received most of them and is reviewing them in detail, so she can make a decision.Elliott says one factor to consider is whether a vaccine mandate would lead to staff shortages affecting patient care, such as needing to cancel surgeries.Several hospitals who have already implemented their own mandates have seen roughly two per cent of staff being placed on unpaid leave or terminated because of the policies.Ontario reported 422 new COVID-19 cases Monday and three more deaths.
