Designers are turning away from the runways and toward busy hospitals amid the Covid-19 crisis Blackburn’s Cookson & Clegg factory usually produces crisp cotton jackets, five-pocket jeans and other stylish essentials for Community Clothing.

But these days, the sewers and machinists at the Lancashire factory have turned their attention and expertise toward a new product: medical scrubs.

They’re aiming to produce 2,500 pairs of scrubs for the National Health Service’s main supplier in the next 10 days, working six days a week to get every boxy top and drawstring trouser cut and sewn as efficiently as possible.  “We’re trying to get everyone in the factory to agree to quite a bit of overtime.
