Gov. Phil Murphy announced during his daily briefing 1,670 new cases and 168 new deaths attributed to the virus. Elective surgeries in New Jersey will be allowed to resume on May 26, according to the governor.
Murphy, on Twitter, called this announcement a "big step forward for public health." The governor also revealed that the state will be distributing $50M in CARES Act funding to help small businesses ravaged by the virus. "Our small businesses are the heart of our economy.
