Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis has received high praise for comments she made about the reality of coronavirus. The BBC journalist made a profound and powerful speech on Wednesday evening’s episode of the BBC programme, aiming to debunk myths surrounding COVID-19.
Within it, Emily criticised the popular belief that the result of the pandemic will be a “great leveller” meaning that the rich and poor will suffer the same.
She went on to explain the front line workers, such as health care workers, bus drivers and shopkeepers - those who are mostly exposed to the illness - fall in the lower paid section of the workforce.
