PHILADELPHIA - The midweek warmup that brought springlike conditions across the Delaware Valley on Wednesday will stall over the next several days before temperatures take another huge jump over the weekend.Overnight temperatures north and west of Philadelphia will dip into the mid to upper 30s. The Philadelphia area and neighboring parts of New Jersey will sit around 40 degrees. An incoming clipper system will drag spotty showers across the region on Thursday morning and bring cold air that will drop temperatures below seasonable levels. Forecasters expect high temperatures to linger in the mid-to-upper 40s with sun and clouds, but steady winds will make conditions feel much colder.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police have identified the juvenile shot and killed by plain-clothed officers on Tuesday night. According to police, four officers assigned to the South Task Force were in an unmarked car in the area of 18th and Johnston Streets as part of an ongoing investigation. Police say the officers saw two males standing on the corner of 18th and Barbara Streets. One was allegedly wanted for questioning as part of the investigation. Authorities say officers turned on their police lights and drove down the street when they heard gunfire and the glass from the rear passenger window shattered. Two officers got out of the car and fired their weapons at the juvenile, shooting him in the upper right side of his back, police say.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department announced the arrests of three suspects allegedly connected to the murder of a veteran and multiple carjackings across the city. On February 6, 60-year-old George Briscella was gunned down during a carjacking outside of his mother's house in Rhawnhurst. Weeks later, on February 22, Philadelphia police announced the arrest of 28-year-old Jonathan Akubu on charges of murder, aggravated assault, arson and carjacking connected to Briscella's murder, murder of 28-year-old Aiah Gbessay, and several carjackings. Police believed Akubu was the leader of a carjacking ring linked to dozens of crimes in the city. A police source told FOX 29's Kelly Rule that Akubu could be linked to over 40 carjackings.As the number of carjackings continue to surge in Philadelphia, police have announced the arrest of Jonathan Akubu in connection with at least five incidents.

PHILADELPHIA - The controversy surrounding potentially opening safe injection sites in Philadelphia is once again heating up as Mayor Jim Kenney continues to lend his support to the movement and those opposed have planned protests. The last time a safe injection site was proposed in Philadelphia – about two years ago- a federal appeals court ruled against it. Since then, New York became the first city in the country to open such a site last year. Officials there say the site has already stopped more than 100 overdoses. Mayor Kenney spoke with FOX 29’s Steve Keeley late last month and reiterated that he’s seen such operations work in Canada – in both Toronto and Vancouver.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia on Monday said it will move forward with a repaving project that will make one of the city's most dangerous thoroughfares safer by reconfiguring lanes to allow for better traffic flow.According to a release from the city, Washington Avenue will change its five-lane layout to a mixed lane format between 4th Street to Grays Ferry Avenue. The project is set to begin later this year. Washington Avenue has more crashes than the average Philadelphia street and has not been repaved since 2003, according to the city.

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia non-profit has received an outpouring of donations from locals who were inspired to help the Ukrainian people during the ongoing Russian invasion. The United Ukrainian-American Relief Committee said its building on Cottman Avenue is overflowing with donations including medical supplies, clothing, sleeping bags and hygiene items. "I mean it's amazing how people are coming in who have no ties to Ukraine, but responding in a humanitarian way," Executive Director Motraj Watters said. The donations will be packaged and shipped in two large box trucks, then airlifted overseas to Poland where they will cross over into Ukraine for distribution. Iryna Mazur, the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Philadelphia, watched hopefully as President Biden promised more relief in his first State of the Union address."I just want to help any way I can," Ustyna Danylovych said. "My parents immigrated from Ukraine in the late 90s and my entire family is still there.

PHILADELPHIA - Police shot and killed a juvenile who investigators say opened fire on officers Tuesday night in South Philadelphia. Philadelphia Police Department Sergeant Eric Gripp told reporters that four plainclothes officers in an unmarked were patrolling near the 1700 block of Barbara Street around 7 p.m. when they spotted two juveniles on bikes. According to investigators, officers noticed that one of the juveniles was armed with a handgun and turned on the emergency lights to confront him.

Police are investigating after a woman was found shot and killed in Strawberry Mansion on Tuesday morning.  PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that took place early Tuesday morning.According to police, officers responded to the 3400 block of West Huntingdon Street in Port Richmond after receiving multiple 911 calls about a shooting.Authorities say a woman was found on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to her head.She was bleeding and unresponsive, according to police.After being rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced dead at 4:31 a.m., police say.Police say there was no identification on her and she is currently listed as a Jane Doe.Chief Inspector Scott Small said the only items at the scene were a set of car keys near her body. No shell casings or ballistic evidence was found near her, according to Small.Police believe at least five bullets were shot because several houses on the street were struck by gunfire, authorities say.Several houses on Huntingdon Street were also struck by gunfire, according to police.  This is a developing story.

A man shot and killed his three children, their chaperone and himself during a supervised visit with the kids Monday at a church in Sacramento, California, authorities said.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say a woman was driving on one of Philadelphia's busiest streets Monday night when she was grazed in the back of the head by gunfire.Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters that officers found a 35-year-old woman pulled over of Roosevelt Boulevard around 7 p.m. with a graze wound to the back of the head. She was rushed by police to Albert Einstein Medical Center and placed in stable condition, Small said. The shooting victim told police she was driving on the southbound side of Roosevelt Boulevard near 5th Street when she heard a loud bang and noticed her head was bleeding.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Authorities say a man shot and killed his three children, one other person and then turned the gun on himself at a church in Sacramento on Monday, the sheriff's office confirmed.Officials said law enforcement officers swarmed an Arden-Arcade neighborhood around 5 p.m. after reports of gunfire. Deputies responded to a church in the area where they found five people dead.The victims included three children under the age of 15.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities on Monday identified burned remains that were found a week ago on a pathway near a busy Philadelphia thoroughfare. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department on Feb. 20 were called to the 32nd and Thompson streets for reports of a person screaming. Police were lead to charred remains in the middle of a pathway near Kelly Drive and Brewery Hill Drive.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia will be keeping their mask requirements in schools and indoor public spaces ‘for the time being’ as officials say they’ll be sticking to their new tiered response levels.Monday afternoon, city officials announced that Philadelphia would remain in the ‘Mask Precautions Only’ response level. PHILADELPHIA - A man has died after he was found shot multiple times in a vehicle in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city. The shooting happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. at 30th and Fontain Streets, according to authorities. Police say the 26-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, back, and left leg.

PHILADELPHIA - A man has been arrested for his role in the shooting of a woman in the Overbrook section of the city earlier this month. The shooting happened on Feb. 22 shorty before 2 a.m.
