It is around 8pm, and a doctor is back home from his hospital shift. He is finally safe from the frontline of Covid-19. Yet his whirring mind is still in that hospital.
The specific scene which he cannot escape is the moment today a family was told their child had died. He doesn’t want to burden his partner, so he’s alone with the devastating image.
Thankfully, he is texting a volunteer for Shout, a 24/7 text mental health support service launched last year with the backing of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Yesterday, Prince William posted a video urging frontline workers to text the helpline as part of Our Frontline, a support programme launched by he and Kate last month, also including Mind, Samaritans, and Hospice UK.
