Bengaluru: The Karnataka health department is using technology to curb violations by those in home quarantine, through a system that requires the latter to send selfies to an app every hour, which is then corroborated with the address on global positioning system (GPS).
The technological intervention was necessitated due to the large number of complaints over violations by those under the mandatory 14-day home quarantine. “All persons under order of home quarantine shall send their selfie to (the) government every 1 hour from home," the state government said in a circular on Monday.
The selfie will be cross checked with the GPS coordinates to see if the person is at the address of home quarantine. Thousands of people are currently in home
