Jonathan Rothberg, the owner of one of the world’s most coveted superyachts, the 180-foot explorer Gene Machine by Amels worth an estimated $40m, is busy developing a low-cost, easy-to-manufacture home test kit for Coronavirus – from his on-board laboratory.
And he’s looking to announce its completion any day now. A scientist and biotechnology entrepreneur, Rothberg, who spends at least six months of the year on his boat and recently sailed it 9,000 miles from the French Riviera to Svalbard in Northern Norway, has long been on a mission to democratise health care and he’s been doing
