Town house to be demolished under council proposal

An historic old town house in Ayr has been earmarked for demolition as part of a council proposal. It is proposed to tear down the former Savers shop.

It is the last building still standing at the bottom of the High Street next to a razed site.Its potential demise is part of a plan to transform the former Woolworths plot.

But pressure group #Ayr Deserves Better are objecting to the recommendation to knock down the building, which sits at numbers 8 to 10.

Former architect Patrick Lorimer said in a written submission that the group “regrets the proposed demolition of this historic building.”He said: “Originally, the building was to be retained as one of two bookends to the site.” Mr Lorimer has lodged comments as part of a consultation
