Virgin Atlantic, Ryanair and Norwegian Air use Prestwick Airport as giant parking bay during coronavirus lockdown

A number of different carriers have parked up at Prestwick Airport as the coronavirus hits the aviation industry.At least two Virgin Atlantic Airbus planes were among the first to be parked up.

There is the potential for the vast airport to become a parking lot as airlines need space for out of service planes with nowhere to go.The Virgin A340-600 series is one of the longest public aircraft ever made and normally flies from Heathrow to the US.Spotters have been taking shots of the recently landed planes.Virgin Atlantic boss Richard Branson asked staff to take eight weeks unpaid leave as a result of the travel ban following the pandemic.The airline plans to ground 80 per cent of its fleet.
